History Museum at Collins Barracks & Malahide Castle, fun day out for all the family!

Hi all,
Friend of mine recently undertook the trip below with her two boys, really worth reading for a great day out:
Well I’m up from Galway with the 3 boys staying with my mum and we decided to go to Collins Barracks and then Malahide Castle.
So train from Castleknock to Connolly,
Luas from Connolly to Museum

Visited Dead Zoo, and the Soldier exhibit and the Money exhibit, very interesting, could have spent loads more time there, but had places to go!
Kids loved the Luas to get there, and then we had snack in the cafe, which was a big hit.
Boys really liked Natural History Stuffed Animals and the soldier exhibit all the tanks and things.
There is also a big courtyard and I saw other little boys running around it!

 Luas from Museum to Connolly.

Dart from Connolly to Howth Junction

Dart from Howth Junction to Malahide.

Then walked miles to the Model railway museum at Malahide Castle, Boys enjoyed it but i thought it was a bit expensive,  then we went to the cafe, then spent ages at the fab playground.. then time to head home.
Dart from Malahide to Connolly
Train from Connolly to Castleknock.
Great day out, boys were excited to be on so many trains!!!
Both places defo worth a visit again!! Maybe with less train trips :

Starting School

Do you have a child who’s starting school soon, or maybe you’re planning to home school? It’s never too early to give them a head start. School starts in only a few short weeks, which means you still have time to help them get prepared. To help you out, Kid’s Activity Calendar is giving away a pretty nice kit of activities around the letter ‘A’. This pack includes

Fun alphabet snacks that start with the letter A
Letter A coloring sheets
Letter A search worksheets
Letter A trace sheets
Letter A flash cards and
Game of the week idea around the letter A

You can download them for free from this page

Dublin’s newest playground-Father Collins Park Donaghmede

Hi all,

Well I had a lovely afternoon with the kids at Father Collins Park today. Loads of room for them to run around, 2 playgrounds and best of all loads of parent and picnic benches! Not to be missed!

Leisureplex Coolock

Well with the weather being so changeable lately, playcentres are fast becoming a Godsend!!

I brought the kids yesterday to Leisureplex Coolock where they enjoyed 2 hours at the Zoo playcentre, only €5 in and well worth it!Loads of space to run around, very safe and all in all an enjoyable experience. The only thing I would suggest is they have more food/drink on the same level as the playcentre although there are vending machines around….Bring the older kids for pool, bowling etc…all for €5, you can’t go wrong….

Dublin Zoo

HI all,

Well I hadn’t been at the Zoo since I was a little girl(long time ago now!)and decided to go  with hubbie and kids. What a day! Granted it was expensive (free for kids under 3) but adults cost a whopping €15 each!! Still it was worth it. My daughter (3) was so excited we were going and couldn’t wait to see the elephants and lions..we couldn’t find the lions unfortunately, perhaps they are at playschool she said! Cute.We didn’t bother bringing a picnic but regretted that immediately as there were so many picnic areas around and it would have been lovely. So my advice is:pack the kids in the car, bring your little picnic and head straight for the Zoo, the kids will remember it forever and you will enjoy it too. Plus kids so tired running around with all the little playgrounds etc, they will sleep well that night…enjoy.
